Blair Saxon-Hill
Tonal Sequence

April 7–April 30, 2011

Transfixed by grey, Tonal Sequence examines photographic space by way of physical articulation and documentation of sculpture. Photographic truth is commonly reliant on grey as neutral space, and often dependent on the negation of photographic space as form. Throughout Saxon-Hill’s large-scale archival digital c-prints and a selection of cast forms, the existence of grey exists as both backdrop and sculptural space. Each collaged composition evokes spatial and subject ambiguities; a staged collapse along tonal swaths of background, real and implied.
